Basketball Game Preview: Jefferson Cougars vs. Martinsburg Bulldogs

Jefferson and Martinsburg are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Jefferson Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Martinsburg Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for Jefferson: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Martinsburg has snatched up ten consecutive wins on the road also dating back to last season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Jefferson challenged Spring Mills on Thursday. Jefferson took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Spring Mills.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Martinsburg's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 45-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Musselman. The match marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Jefferson will have to keep a close watch on Addyson Strovel and Aaliyah Wymer, a pair of players who had a big impact on Martinsburg's prior game. Strovel dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 boards, while Wymer went 5 of 12 on her way to 13 points in addition to six steals and three blocks. Strovel is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played. Tianna Sanabria was another key player, putting up six points along with five boards and five steals.

Even though they lost, Martinsburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 18 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Martinsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
