The Fairhope Pirates will venture away from home to square off against the Mary G. Montgomery Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Mary G. Montgomery took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Fairhope, who comes in off a win.
On Wednesday, Fairhope made easy work of Richmond-Burton and carried off a 12-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.
Blake Westry was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Alex Herington was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Rock Gearhart was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Mary G. Montgomery fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Demopolis on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-3 to the Tigers, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Keagan Odom was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Mary G. Montgomery saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anderson Murray, who scored a run while going 2-for-5. That's the most hits Murray has posted since back in February. Tj Wood also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Mary G. Montgomery's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Fairhope, their record now sits at 14-5.
Everything went Fairhope's way against Mary G. Montgomery in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Fairhope made off with an 8-2 victory. Does Fairhope have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mary G. Montgomery turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
