Softball Preview: Woodruff Wolverines vs. Pendleton Bulldogs
The Woodruff Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Pendleton Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Woodruff is hoping to deliver their fans another blowout on Friday, just like they did against Fountain Inn (and have done all season long). Woodruff put the hurt on Fountain Inn with a sharp 10-1 win on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Woodruff considering their one-run performance the match before.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pendleton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They never let Broome onto the board and left with a 9-0 victory on Wednesday.
Laney Jennings made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Jennings has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Jennings was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, and two doubles.
Jennings wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maggie Claire Williams, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Ella Bryant, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Woodruff is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Pendleton, their win bumped their record up to 13-7-1.
