Basketball Recap: Olivia Welch's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Whitmer over Perrysburg

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Whitmer can now relate to. They received a blow on Wednesday as they fell 57-40 to the Perrysburg Yellow Jackets. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 101st).

Whitmer's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Welch, who posted nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adalyn Johnson, who had 11 points.

Whitmer's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Perrysburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.

Whitmer does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Perrysburg, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 41-29 victory against Findlay on the 22nd.
