Baseball Game Preview: Rustburg Red Devils vs. Brookville Bees

Rustburg is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Friday. They will host the Brookville Bees at 5:30 p.m.

Rustburg is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since April 16, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Appomattox County by a score of 8-6. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brookville). They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over William Campbell on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Bees in their matchups with the Generals: they've now won three in a row.

Matthew Tomlin looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Mason Coleman was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those doubles marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Camden Brown, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Brookville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Brookville's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Rustburg, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Rustburg came up short against Brookville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 5-2. Can Rustburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
