Mia Gonzalez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Gonzalez was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Hinojos, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Calista Beltran, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
The win got Buena Park back to even at 4-4. As for Whitney, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Whitney has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Buena Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Whitney came up short against Buena Park in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 7-3. Will Whitney have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
