Baseball Recap: Rutgers Prep Starts off Right with Win over Manville

Rutgers Prep had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They never let the Manville Mustangs get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Argonauts also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2022.

Li Perez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single hit, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Rutgers Prep got a massive performance out of Matt Bilmes, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave Bilmes a new career-high. Ethan Nepomuceno was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Rutgers Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manville only posted an OBP of .000.

Coming up, Rutgers Prep will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Bernards at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Manville, they will venture away from home to take on Belvidere at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give Manville their first taste of in-conference action this season.
