Baseball Game Preview: Pomperaug Panthers vs. Immaculate Mustangs

Pomperaug is 2-8 against Immaculate since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Panthers are taking a road trip to face off against the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Pomperaug's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 27-0 margin over Harding. The win was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Jake Nichols looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Pomperaug let Noah Pane and Andrew Brocksmith run wild. Pane went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI, while Brocksmith went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Brocksmith a new career-high. Dominic Creaco was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Pomperaug kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Immaculate made sure to put some runs up on the board against Harding on Wednesday. The Mustangs blew past the Presidents 22-1.

Pomperaug's record is now 8-5. As for Immaculate, their record now sits at 9-4.

Pomperaug got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Immaculate by a conclusive 10-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
