Softball Recap: Caruthersville Takes a Loss

Caruthersville had lost eight straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-17 to make it nine. They came up short against the South Pemiscot Bulldogs, falling 15-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for South Pemiscot, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-8. Considering they have won 16 contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For South Pemiscot's part, Phoenix Simmons made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts Simmons has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, South Pemiscot let Ayleighonna Farmer and Ta'Kylah Wooden run wild. Farmer got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run, while Wooden went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Farmer has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ma'Leah Duckworth, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI.

While Caruthersville had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
