Two dominant signal callers in Grant Sweeney and Nolan Boyce are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Boerne Greyhounds will be playing in front of their home fans against the Victoria West Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Boerne's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last five games.
Boerne had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 35-point drubbing they dealt Harlandale on Friday. The Greyhounds breezed past the Indians to the tune of 49-14. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-0.
Eli Nikolas went supernova, picking up 147 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Hicks, who picked up 104 receiving yards and one score.
Meanwhile, Victoria West came up short against Alamo Heights on Friday and fell 54-42. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Mules recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Boerne will have to contain Jeret Swanson as he made an impact in Victoria West's last game. He picked up 158 receiving yards and one TD. Swanson really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 71 yards. Jenesis Jeffries was another key player, rushing for 61 yards and one touchdown on only six carries.
Boerne's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 45.2 points this season. As for Victoria West, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.
The upcoming contest will be a clash of competing strengths. Boerne has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 304.5 passing yards per game. Victoria West, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 258.9 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
