Section 3 Class AA 2 recap September 24, 2013
Liverpool moved up to 110 from 139 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Section 3 Class AA 2. The Warriors climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Auburn 21-10.
Fayetteville-Manlius led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Baker.
Rome Free Academy's dynamic duo of Angus Evans and Josh Reed proved to be unstoppable against Proctor, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Evans threw for 340 yards and 4 touchdowns and Reed had 136 yards receiving. Joey Campbell helped Rome Free Academy's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 72 yards.
The Black Knights' dynamic duo of Evans and Reed proved tough for the Raiders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Gage Blasi was a passing and rushing force as the Bees fell to the Hornets. He completed 15 passes for 354 yards and also ran for 7 yards. Blasi's key target this week was Mitch Rein, who caught 5 passes for 120 yards.
He went 14-28 with 1 interception.
Evans put up the best numbers through the air as Rome Free Academy topped Proctor.
Reed was the best wideout in the league this week as Ted Swavely's team bested Jerry Fiorini's team.
J'von Evans was the most successful running back in Section 3 Class AA 2 this week. He ran for 189 yards on 31 carries as the Raiders beat the Raiders. Teammate Marcus Lilley added to the ground attack by rushing for 11 yards.
Rome Free Academy's Evans and Reed have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Evans has thrown for 574 yards this season, while Reed, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 12 catches for 212 yards. Proctor's Evans leads the league in rushing yards with 480.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Fayetteville-Manlius takes on second place Liverpool.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Black Knights' Reed goes up against Baker's Cameron Skipworth.
Next week's game between Rome Free Academy and Carl Sanfilippo's team will feature a good passing match up as Evans will test his arm against Skipworth's defensive ability.
There should be lots of points scored when the Bees and the Black Knights face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Baker comes in having scored 81 this season, while Rome Free Academy has scored 55. The Bees scored 37 points last week as they lost to Fayetteville-Manlius.
Liverpool made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,780 from 5,610. The improvement came about via a 21-10 victory over the Maroons last week.
