Softball Recap: Waterloo Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Waterloo had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Marion Wildcats. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bulldogs also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Waterloo saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grayce Mayer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Waterloo pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Marion, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-6.

Waterloo and Marion should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Bulldogs (ranked 31st) will meet Civic Memorial (ranked 157th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Marion will square off against Carbondale at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (49 vs. 176). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 3, the Terriers 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
