Halstead is 9-1 against Larned since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Dragons are taking a road trip to take on the Indians at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Tuesday, Halstead needed a bit of extra time to put away Smoky Valley. They put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 20-14 win. The victory continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won six in a row.
Katharine Engel was a standout: she got on base in three of her six plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayla Cooper, who went 4-for-6 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Halstead was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Larned came up short against Hillsboro on Tuesday and fell 16-13. Even though they lost, the Indians' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.3 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Larned got a massive performance out of Brooke Simmons, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple was Simmons' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kendra Marvin, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Larned has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. As for Halstead, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Larned's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Halstead has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Larned, though, as they've been averaging 11.7 hits. Given Halstead's sizable advantage in that area, the Indians will need to find a way to close that gap.
Halstead was able to grind out a solid victory over Larned in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
