Softball Recap: Mitchell Takes a Loss

Mitchell had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-9 to make it five. They came up short against the Harrisburg Tigers, falling 18-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Kernels of the 15-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Matteah Graves made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one triple the last three times she's played.

As for Harrisburg, their record now sits at 15-2. Considering they have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Harrisburg's side, Ava Gross was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Gross a new career-high. Kennedy Kokenge was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Mitchell is set to take on their familiar foe Brookings at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Harrisburg will face off against rival Rapid City Central on Thursday.
