Baseball Game Preview: Vincent Memorial Scots vs. Foothills Christian Knights

The Vincent Memorial Scots are taking a road trip to take on the Foothills Christian Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Vincent Memorial is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak dating back to last season.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Vincent Memorial and Calipatria, and Calipatria kept the tradition alive. Vincent Memorial lost 16-6 to Calipatria on Monday.

Foothills Christian never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Coastal Academy on Friday. They blew past the Stingrays 15-0. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Knights this season.

Jr Merino made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Jack Morgan and Jeremy Saucedo did most of the damage at the plate: Morgan scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Saucedo scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave Saucedo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trevor Cochrum, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Vincent Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Foothills Christian, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 4-5.
