Basketball Recap: Permian Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Permian won the last time they faced Odessa and things went their way on Friday too. The Permian Panthers came out on top against the Odessa Bronchos by a score of 58-50. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Bronchos are ranked 595th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Permian's victory bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Odessa, they now have a losing record at 12-13.

Permian will host Midland Legacy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Permian has won six straight at home, while Midland Legacy won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Odessa, they will venture away from home to challenge San Angelo Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. San Angelo Central knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 25 matchups -- so hopefully Odessa likes a good challenge.
