Softball Game Preview: Heidelberg Oilers vs. Mize Bulldogs

For the first time this season, Heidelberg will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will venture away from home to face off against the Mize Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Heidelberg comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Heidelberg came up short against Bay Springs on Thursday, falling 20-4. The contest marked the Oilers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Mize was able to grind out a solid win over Richton on Thursday, taking the game 7-2. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Ella Gordon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February.

At the plate, Lila Gordon was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was AK Easterling, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Mize was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richton only posted a batting average of .179.

Mize pushed their record up to 12-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Heidelberg, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
