Basketball Recap: Marion Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Greene County Tech

On Friday, Marion faced Greene County Tech in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Marion Patriots were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 47-46 to the Greene County Tech Golden Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-45 back in January.

Greene County Tech was led to victory by E'Marriha Johnson and Myiah Butler. Johnson went 5-for-8 to rack up 13 points and four steals, while Butler posted seven points in addition to ten rebounds and three blocks. Butler is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Bowdler, who scored three points and three steals.

The defeat snapped Marion's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 20-10 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points over those games. As for Greene County Tech, the victory was the 21st in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 28-2.

Marion does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Greene County Tech, they will face off against Sheridan at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Greene County Tech is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.7 points per game this season.
