Softball Recap: Hays Comes Up Short

Hays managed to slip by Liberty Hill the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Hawks came up short against the Panthers on Friday, falling 8-0. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 11-10.

Makayla Munoz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Hays saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Teuila Eteaki, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Hays' defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Liberty Hill, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4-1 record this season.

Hays will head out to take on Lehman at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks are facing the Lobos at the right time seeing as the Lobos are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Liberty Hill, they will square off against Cedar Park at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Timberwolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.88 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
