The Poston Butte Broncos will challenge the Horizon Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Poston Butte was handed a 11-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Arcadia.
Cordd Baker made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
In other batting news, Damian Serrano was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, in Tuesday's Canine Competition, Horizon came out on top. They never let Skyline get on the board and left with a 3-0 win on Tuesday.
Connor McDonald tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chris Quigg, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.
Horizon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive matches.
Poston Butte's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Horizon, their record is now 5-3.
Poston Butte beat Horizon 7-2 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will Poston Butte repeat their success, or does Horizon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
