Preview: Troy Trojans vs. St. Maries Lumberjacks
The Troy Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the St. Maries Lumberjacks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Troy suffered their biggest loss yet this season last Saturday. They were dealt a 77-35 defeat at the hands of Lapwai. Troy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, St. Maries' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Grangeville on the road and fell 80-24. While losing is never fun, St. Maries can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while Grangeville is ranked tenth).
Despite the defeat, St. Maries had strong showings from Jacklin Linnemeyer, who scored six points along with two steals, and Averie Baird, who scored no points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. Maries struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Troy's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5. As for St. Maries, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
Troy strolled past St. Maries when the teams last played back in November of 2023 by a score of 53-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for Troy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
