Baseball Recap: Urbana Wins Going Away Against Graham Local

Urbana barely beat Graham Local the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hillclimbers blew past the Falcons 14-5 on Thursday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Hillclimbers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Grady Lantz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Urbana is 2-1 when Lantz posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Colt Teepe was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Jackson Wilheim also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Urbana lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Urbana and bumps their season record up to 6-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Graham Local, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6.

Looking ahead, Urbana will take on Benjamin Logan at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Hillclimbers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Graham Local, they will challenge Kenton Ridge at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
