Dawson School and Dayspring Christian Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will face off against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Dawson School's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Mustangs on Thursday. Dawson School blew past Denver Academy 21-1. Dawson School hasn't had any issues with Denver Academy recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Dawson Kusel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Kusel was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Dawson School: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Jaxson Wheat was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Graham Bernstein also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Dawson School kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 11.6.
Meanwhile, Dayspring Christian Academy earned a 4-1 win over Clear Creek on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Like Dawson School, Dayspring Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Logan Vaniddekinge. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Vaniddekinge has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Bohl, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Josiah Rodriguez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Dayspring Christian Academy's record now sits at 12-3. As for Dawson School, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dawson School has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Dayspring Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Dawson School took their victory against Dayspring Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
