Basketball Recap: Lakeland Regional Comes Up Short

Lakeland Regional suffered their closest loss since December 28, 2023 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the West Milford Highlanders by a score of 40-37. The matchup marked the Lancers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

West Milford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sara Wardlaw led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds. That's the most points Wardlaw has posted since back in December of 2024. Laurel Space was another key player, putting up eight points and seven boards.

Lakeland Regional's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for West Milford, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Lakeland Regional and West Milford should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. Lakeland Regional will challenge Fair Lawn at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday up 181 places (85 vs. 266). Meanwhile, West Milford (ranked 74th) will meet Wayne Valley (ranked 285th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
