Softball Recap: Decatur Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Decatur won the last time they faced Cassopolis and things went their way on Monday too. The Raiders blew past the Rangers 11-3. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Carlee Cady was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sienna Potter, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mallory Kelly, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Decatur lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive games.

Decatur pushed their record up to 10-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cassopolis, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Decatur beat the Rangers by a score of 18-7 later that day.
