Recap: Midway Raiders vs. Fairmont Golden Tornadoes
After a string of six wins, the Midway Raiders's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were beaten by Fairmont 55-25. Midway has struggled against Fairmont recently, as their match on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Midway lost, one person who can't be blamed is McKenzie Williams. Despite the final result, she scored six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Williams, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Miah Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Fairmont, scoring 20 points along with seven steals. Smith is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Taniya Simms was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Midway's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-5. As for Fairmont, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Midway will take on West Bladen at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (West Bladen is ranked 368th, while Midway is ranked 358th). As for Fairmont, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against St. Pauls at 6:00 p.m. St. Pauls is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
