Baseball Recap: Water Valley Comes Up Short

Water Valley extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 7-13. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-10 heartbreaker at the hands of the Myrtle Hawks. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2025.

Allen Paysinger was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Water Valley is 3-1 when Paysinger posts one or more home runs, but 4-12 otherwise. Aiden Reed also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Myrtle, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Myrtle's side, the team relied heavily on Drew Stanton, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Van Paul Poteet, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

While Water Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
