Baseball Recap: Marion Center Comes Up Short

Marion Center had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it five. They came up short against the West Shamokin Wolves, falling 7-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Stingers were not able to get on the board.

Marion Center saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trey Slovinsky, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Slovinsky is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

As for West Shamokin, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On West Shamokin's side, the result came thanks to Luke McCullough's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ben McConnell, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Scrips, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.

While Marion Center had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
