Most every ranked team held steady except De La Salle, which lost a thriller in Texas. The Spartans remain No. 1 here until someone from Northern California beats them, and that hasn't happened since 1991.

Section: North Coast
League: Independent
Coach: Justin Alumbaugh
Next: vs. No. 12 Serra (San Mateo), Friday.
Update: Nationally ranked No. 1 by MaxPreps to open the season, the Spartans were beaten by Trinity of Texas 26-21 in a game they nearly won late when a double-pass just missed in the end zone. Turnovers, penalties and poor tackling didn't help.

Next: at Clovis North (Fresno), Saturday.
Update: The Bulldogs, top-ranked by The Sacramento Bee, rallied late to beat No. 6 Clayton Valley Charter in a thriller, 27-26, behind new-era stars Jake Jeffrey, Tre Green and Roger Neal. Folsom's 33-game regular-season winning streak leads the state.
