Softball Recap: South Davidson Has No Trouble Against Salisbury

South Davidson's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They blew past the Salisbury Hornets 14-4. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by ten runs or more this season.

Payton Cook made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Harleigh Russell, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Anna Smith was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.

South Davidson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Salisbury only posted a batting average of .286.

South Davidson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Salisbury, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.

South Davidson has already played their next contest, a 20-2 win against Thomasville on the 28th. As for Salisbury, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, an 18-1 defeat against Walkertown on the 24th.
