Baseball Recap: Portland Highlanders vs. Morgan Huskies
Portland extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-10 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Morgan Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-2 back in April.
Aaron Ciarleglio made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
As for Morgan, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 14th.
On Morgan's side, Jacoby Brown tossed a big game, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. Brown has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Benji Brown was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Julian Larabee, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portland will head out to take on Old Lyme at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Highlanders are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Morgan, they will venture away from home to challenge East Hampton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games the Bellringers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
