Hampton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 14 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-13. They lost 16-7 to the Elizabethton Fighting Cyclones. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Cyclones this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-1 back in March.
Mallory Lamb was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (one). She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Lillian Andrews made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hadley Vines, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
As for Elizabethton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Like Hampton, Elizabethton also got a great game from a two-way player: AVA HANSON. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. HANSON has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, SADIE WILLIAMS was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. GRACIE SHEPARD was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Coming up, Hampton is taking a road trip to take on Happy Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Elizabethton, they will be playing at home against Sevier County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Smoky Bears will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
