Baseball Recap: Jay Starts Season with Win at Home

Jay gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Wagoner 8-6. This was payback for Jay, who suffered a 5-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Jay saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cody Whitlock, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. The dominant performance gave Whitlock a new career-high in hits. Another was Kenan Garcia, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Wagoner's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Jay will be playing in front of their home fans against Checotah at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Wagoner, they will square off against Grove at 5:00 p.m. on March 10th.
