Volleyball Recap: New Riegel Triumphs

New Riegel posted their closest victory since August 27, 2024 on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Lakota Raiders 3-2. The game was the first time the Blue Jackets have beaten the Raiders on their court since October 14, 2021.

New Riegel wouldn't go down easily and took Lakota into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13.

Addison Theis paced New Riegel's offense, picking up 18 kills. Theis got some help from Claire Schalk and her 30 assists. Schalk was also solid from the service line: she led the team with seven aces.

Despite the loss, Lakota still got an impressive performance from Sophia Bomer, who had 55 assists and 18 digs. Bomer has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more assists the last 26 times she's played. Addie Gilbert was another key player, getting 18 digs.

New Riegel's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Lakota, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. New Riegel is set to face off against their familiar foe St. Joseph Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Lakota will square off against rival Northwood at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
