Basketball Recap: Victory Charter Beats Notus for Their Fourth Straight Win

Victory Charter had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They walked away with a 62-53 victory over the Notus Pirates. That's more bragging rights for the Vipers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Victory Charter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cody Luce led the charge by going 6 for 14 en route to 18 points along with seven boards and three steals. Luce's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jett Wood, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Victory Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Notus only pulled down five offensive boards.

Notus' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Benny Guevara, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 19 points and six boards. Derrick Huter was another key player, going 6 for 10 en route to 13 points and four steals.

Victory Charter has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Notus, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Victory Charter has already played their next game (against Rimrock), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Notus will be playing at home against Council at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Council will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Notus surely won't give up without a fight.
