Baseball Recap: Biddeford Comes Up Short

Biddeford entered their match against Scarborough on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Tigers fell just short of the Red Storm by a score of 2-1. The Tigers were not able to make up for their loss to the Red Storm from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Gavin Haggett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Biddeford saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Descoteaux, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Biddeford's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Scarborough, the win keeps they at an undefeated 9-0.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Biddeford will take on rival South Portland at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 1.2, the Red Riots 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Scarborough is set to face off against their familiar foe Thornton Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Red Storm have won 13 straight at home dating back to last season, while the Trojans won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
