Recap: Riverside-Durham Pirates vs. Hillside Hornets
The Riverside-Durham Pirates suffered their biggest defeat since November 29, 2023 on Friday. They were dealt a 55-15 loss at the hands of Hillside. While losing is never fun, Riverside-Durham can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 518th, while Hillside is ranked 82nd).
Riverside-Durham got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Jah-tourah Knowles and
Khalia Madlock, who each put up four points.
Samiyah Barker continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Hillside, scoring 16 points along with four steals. Barker hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Madison Malone, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and two blocks.
Riverside-Durham's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Hillside, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverside-Durham will take on Chapel Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chapel Hill is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Hillside, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Southern Durham at 3:30 p.m. Southern Durham is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.4 points per game.
