Football Recap: Shelton Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Heston Dios and Max Boul

After flying high against Newman International Academy two weeks ago, Shelton came back down to earth. The Chargers came up short against the McKinney Christian Academy Mustangs on Friday, falling 45-24. The Chargers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Shelton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Max Boul, who rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown, and Heston Dios, who rushed for 61 yards and one score.

Cody Dow produced another solid performance throwing for 257 yards and four TDs on only 17 passes, while also rushing for 39 yards and one score for McKinney Christian Academy. Dow is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last four games he's played. McKinney Christian Academy's leading receiver Harrison Thompson was Dow's top target yet again, picking up 102 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Shelton has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 27.0 points over those games. As for McKinney Christian Academy, their record is now 5-1.

Coming up, Shelton will challenge Dallas Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give Shelton their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for McKinney Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to take on Cypress Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will need to watch out since the Warriors have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
