Volleyball Recap: Bellarmine College Prep Takes a Loss

Bellarmine College Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Santa Cruz Cardinals. While the Bells didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cardinals 25-18 in the first set.

The 2-1 doesn't really show just how close this match was: all the sets Bellarmine College Prep lost were decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 27-25, 19-17.

Their offense was headlined by Luke Bosanac and JJ Barton, who picked up nine kills apiece. They got some help from Holden Findley and his 19 assists. Bosanac was also a major player on defense: he and Cole Morgan shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with three each.

Bellarmine College Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 19-13. As for Santa Cruz, their victory was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 25-2.

Bellarmine College Prep didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 loss against Branham on the 26th. As for Santa Cruz, they will be playing at home against Harbor at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight.
