Baseball Recap: Hilliard Darby's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Three

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hilliard Darby ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They skirted past the Marysville Monarchs 4-3. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Matt Irwin looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Hilliard Darby is 6-3 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Hilliard Darby's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Scott VanVranken, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave VanVranken a new career-high.

Hilliard Darby's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Marysville, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-10.

Hilliard Darby has already played their next game, an 8-0 defeat against Olentangy Berlin on the 13th. Hopefully Marysville paid attention to the Panthers' contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
