Football Recap: Santa Margarita Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Newport Harbor

Santa Margarita faced Newport Harbor in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Eagles fell just short of the Sailors by a score of 14-12. The loss was the Eagles' first of the season.

Despite the loss, Santa Margarita still got an impressive performance from Madi Lam, who threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.4% of her passes.

Newport Harbor found their leader in sophomore Scarlett Guyser, who rushed for 64 yards and one score on only nine carries, and also threw for 102 yards and one TD.

Having lost for the first time this season, Santa Margarita fell to 12-1. As for Newport Harbor, the win keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
