Basketball Recap: Mankato West Takes a Loss

If Mankato West was feeling good fresh off their 57-21 takedown of Albert Lea last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mankato West Scarlets came up short against the Owatonna Huskies on Thursday, falling 60-36. The Scarlets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Huskies earlier this season, when they won 59-48.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Owatonna to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava Olson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave Olson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was D'Naesha Stevens, who posted ten points and five steals.

Mankato West's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Owatonna, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mankato West will host Mayo at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. As for Owatonna, they will face off against Red Wing at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
