Preview: Lake View Chiefs vs. Estacado Matadors

Lake View is 0-5 against Estacado since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lake View Chiefs will head out on the road to face off against the Estacado Matadors at 7:00 p.m. Lake View has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since August 25.

Lake View pushed their score all the way to 43 back in October, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a rough 63-43 defeat at the hands of Big Spring.

Despite the defeat, Lake View got a solid performance out of Jalen Chavez, who threw for 172 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground.

Meanwhile, Estacado can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Big Spring as Estacado made off with a 33-13 victory. Given Estacado's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 184th, while Big Spring is ranked 810th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Estacado's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from James Bozeman, who rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Bozeman was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Bobby Ross also helped out as he racked up 100 rushing yards.

Lake View's loss was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Sadly, the team can't blame their woes on tough opposition, as that stretch included 2-8 Levelland and 2-7 Big Spring (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 44.4% over those games). As for Estacado, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.

Lake View was taken down by Estacado 61-7 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Can Lake View avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
