Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Smithsburg

Smithsburg barely beat Catoctin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Leopards put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 12-1 win on Monday. That looming 12-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Leopards yet this season.

Gavin Ramarge and Chase Sarber made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ramarge pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Meanwhile, Sarber pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. At the plate, Ramarge fired off two home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-3, while Sarber scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Those home runs marked the first that Ramarge launched this season.

In other batting news, George Mantz was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Heath Githens was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Smithsburg, bringing their record up to 6-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.75 runs across that stretch. As for Catoctin, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-5-1.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Smithsburg is set to face off against their familiar foe Walkersville on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Catoctin will take on rival Middletown at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
