Softball Game Preview: Sylacauga Aggies vs. Benjamin Russell Wildcats

Sylacauga hasn't had much luck against Benjamin Russell recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Sylacauga Aggies will head out to challenge the Benjamin Russell Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Sylacauga narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Shelby County 8-7.

The team relied heavily on Josie Harshberger, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Mackenzie Pruett also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Russell came into Tuesday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Central of Clay County by a score of 6-3 on Tuesday. While the Wildcats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-19-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Henley Bice spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Macie Knox was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Cheyenne Fuller was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Benjamin Russell's record now sits at 6-4. As for Sylacauga, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-7.

Sylacauga suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Benjamin Russell in their previous matchup back in February. Can Sylacauga avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
