Recap: Corning Cardinals vs. Mt. Shasta Bears
The Corning Cardinals pushed their score all the way to 57 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 66-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mt. Shasta. While losing is never fun, Corning can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 757th, while Mt. Shasta is ranked 233rd).
Despite the loss, Corning still got an impressive performance from Jeff Mendros, who scored 30 points. Mendros scored a full 52.6% of Corning's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Roman Bennett, who scored 16 points along with 5 steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Corning and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Mt. Shasta, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Corning's road trip will continue as they head out to face Red Bluff at 7:30 p.m. on December 5th. Mt. Shasta and Durham will face off at 8:08 p.m. on December 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Durham will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
