Basketball Preview: Olympia Spartans vs. Athens Warriors
The Olympia Spartans will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Athens Warriors at 6:00 p.m. Olympia will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Last Tuesday, Olympia didn't have too much trouble with the Hawks at home as they won 49-33. Given Olympia's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while the Hawks are ranked 442nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Athens was beaten by the Bluejays 48-11 on Monday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Athens in their matchups with the Bluejays: they've now lost eight in a row.
Olympia's win bumped their record up to 16-10. As for Athens, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-19.
Everything went Olympia's way against the Warriors in their previous meeting back in November of 2021 as the Spartans made off with a 53-31 win. Does Olympia have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
