Baseball Recap: Westview Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Westview had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Columbus on Saturday. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Discoverers with a sharp 9-1 win. The Wolverines not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 11th (when they won 13-3).

Zach Babic looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kade Korinek was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Darius Boyd was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Westview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbus only posted an OBP of .310.

Westview pushed their record up to 17-12 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Columbus, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-15.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Westview is set to square off against their familiar foe Omaha Westside on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Columbus will take on rival Burke at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
