Preview: Currituck County Knights vs. Bear Grass Charter Bears
After both having extra time off, the Currituck County Knights and the Bear Grass Charter Bears will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 2:00 p.m. on December 27th. Currituck County is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
Currituck County scored the most points they've had all season to find success two weeks ago. They breezed by Pasquotank County at home to the tune of 52-20. That looming 52-20 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Currituck County yet this season.
Currituck County found their leader in underclassman Arianna White, who scored 23 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that White pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Parker, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bear Grass Charter suffered a rough 60-38 defeat at the hands of North Duplin on December 8th. While losing is never fun, Bear Grass Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while North Duplin is ranked 139th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Aubrey Dotson, who scored ten points along with seven steals. The match was her third in a row with at least ten points. Lane Gregory was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 13 rebounds and five blocks.
Bear Grass Charter struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Currituck County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for Bear Grass Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Wednesday's contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Currituck County have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 41.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Bear Grass Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 38 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Currituck County didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Bear Grass Charter when the teams last played back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 44-39 win. Does Currituck County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bear Grass Charter turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
