Recap: Copley Indians vs. Tallmadge Blue Devils
The Copley Indians missed an extra point against the Tallmadge Blue Devils on Friday and it came back to haunt them. Copley was just a hair shy of victory and fell 42-41 to Tallmadge. Copley gained 192 more yards on the day, but it was Tallmadge that made the best of use of them.
Copley's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Gabe Mansel, who threw for 277 yards and four touchdowns, and Tony Cox who rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Andrew Mcknight, who picked up 65 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Copley's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Tallmadge's QB was sacked three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Devonn Nixon and his two sacks.
Tallmadge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryan Loveless led the charge by throwing for 143 yards and three touchdowns. Caleb Reifsnyder was another key contributor, picking up 86 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Copley's loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.2 points per game. As for Tallmadge, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-5.
Copley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Tallmadge also has no future games currently scheduled.
